Cautious Opening of the Victoria Park Tennis Courts dated May 15, 2020
The City of Charlottetown Parks and Recreation Department is cautiously opening the Victoria Park Tennis Courts for limited use beginning today. The courts were previously closed due to the Public Health restrictions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Effective Friday, May 15 at 4 p.m., there will be five courts opened for unorganized recreational singles play. Physical distancing of two meters (6 feet) must be maintained, and no sharing of equipment/items is permitted between different households. A sign-in board will be posted on the clubhouse, where the public can book one-hour time slots on daily basis to reserve court space. The public is asked to only book one court per household, so that others have an opportunity to use the courts. In accordance with direction for the Chief Public Health Office, the public is also reminded not to hang around at the courts outside of booked time slots to limit the potential for public gatherings.
The clubhouse and washrooms in Victoria Park will remain closed to the public.
City staff will monitor the use of the courts and thanks the public for their cooperation and understanding. If the requirements of the PEI Public Health, along with the rules laid out by the City of Charlottetown, are not being respected, the facility will be closed until further restrictions are lifted by the Chief Public Health Office.
With the upcoming long weekend, the City of Charlottetown wants to remind the public to continue to follow the PEI Public Health requirements, such as: physical distancing, follow guideless on limited public gatherings, and no sharing of equipment/items among different households.
