The National Bank PEI Tennis Championships took place this weekend at Victoria Park in Charlottetown.

 

Enrique Riveroll Jr., 16, of New Dominion, topped the Men’s Open Singles division pulling off a stunning upset victory against favourite Jack Digout, 18, of Covehead, 6-3, 6-2. Meghan Adams home the trophy for Women’s Open Singles division by winning a hard-fought match against resilient Maria Campeanu 6-1,7-5.

 

More than 50 players from across Prince Edward Island competed at this summer’s culminating tennis event with players competing across 7 divisions.

 

Brian Murphy took the Men’s Single 3.5 division championship when he defeated Sebastian Nguyen 6-1, 6-3. Dave McGavin and partner Enrique Riveroll Jr. won the Men’s Doubles Open against Jack Digout and Mark Wiebe, 2-6, 7-5, 10-7. Gary Roberts and Gordie Lawlor won the Men’s Doubles 50+ over Eamon Leen and Bill Bylhouwer. In Men’s Singles 50+ action, Don Cameron John McNicol 6-4, 6-2. Meanwhile, in the Mixed Doubles Open final, Meghan Adams and Dave McGavin were victorious over opponents Terry-Lynn MacNeil and Mark Wiebe after a tournament-ending third-set tie-breaker, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 13-11.
