This past weekend, Tennis PEI hosted the National Bank ATA 4.0 Star Tournament at the Spa Total Fitness Center. This Tournament, complimentary of the tournament that was hosted January 7-9th which included younger age groups, was compromised of four divisions: Boys Singles under 16, Boys Singles under 18, Girls Singles under 16, and Girls Singles under 18. There were six island athletes who competed in this Tournament, several of them competing in multiple divisions. Those athletes were Maria Campeanu (Charlottetown, PEI), Cezar Campeanu (Charlottetown, PEI), Tiffany Chong (Crapaud, PEI), Maggie Chong (Crapaud, PEI), Jeffrey Guo (Stratford, PEI), and Matthew Koughan (Stratford, PEI).

While the boys fared well in the Consolation Rounds, with Cezar Campeanu playing through and dominating the Consolation round of the BU18 division, it was the local girls who really took the tournament main draw by storm. Particularly with Maggie Chong and Maria Campeanu, both representing the island, making it to the finals and then facing off in the GU16 Final. The match went to a tie breaker, with Maggie Chong (Crapaud, PEI) coming out victorious [3-6,6-4, (7-3)]. Maggie Chong was seeded 1st in GU16. Maggie Chong also defeated Sofia Gonzalez (Valley, NS) in the GU18 Final, 6-0 6-2.

A great tournament for not only our PEI players, but all Atlantic players. Tennis PEI would like to thank all the participants, players, parents, coaches, staff, and volunteers for making this such a great tournament. Congratulations to all winners and participants.
