Eight of PEI’s top junior tennis players are in Fredericton this week to compete in the Atlantic Outdoor Junior Tennis Championships from July 18 to July 22nd.   The eight Islanders will compete with over 70 players from across the Atlantic provinces to earn spots national championships next month in Ontario and Quebec.

“The Atlantic Championships always an exciting event since it’s here where players qualify for the National tournaments,” says TennisPEI Executive Director Don Cameron.

Cameron points to Kensington’s Rachael Phalen, who enters the tournament as the top seed in both girls under 14 and under 16 competitions, as the player to watch week, while PEI’s youngest competitors, Sebastien Nguyen and Elijah Opps could surprise people in the under 10 competition.
