June was Tennis Month in Canada, and here at Tennis PEI, we celebrated with three fantastic events that brought together tennis enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. From the buzzing Try Tennis Event at the newly formed Stratford Tennis Club to the competitive Outdoor PEI ATA 4 Star Junior Circuit, June was a month to remember. Here’s a recap of the exciting activities that took place.

Try Tennis Event at Stratford Tennis Club

We kicked off Tennis Month with a “smashing” success at the Try Tennis Event held at the newly formed Stratford Tennis Club. The event attracted over 150 participants, all eager to pick up a racquet and hit the courts. It was inspiring to see so many new faces and potential future tennis stars engaging with the sport. The enthusiasm and energy at the event were palpable, and it was a fantastic way to introduce kids in our community to tennis.

Outdoor PEI ATA 4 Star Junior Circuit

Our second major event was the annual PEI Outdoor 4 Star ATA Circuit, which saw a record-breaking 82 participants this year. The tournament showcased some incredible talent and competitive spirit, with players from across Canada stepping up to the challenge. Here are the Island players that made it deep in their respected divisions:

Yolanda Pang – U14 and U16 Girls Singles Champion.
Sebastien Nguyen – U18 Boys Singles Champion.
James Pang – 2nd place U10 Boys Singles Round Robin.
Don Zhang – U18 Semi-Finalist

Billie Jean King Cup Tour

Adding to the excitement of the PEI Outdoor 4 Star ATA Circuit, we had the honour of hosting the Billie Jean King Cup Tour at the Charlottetown Tennis Club. This tour stop celebrated Team Canada’s remarkable win in November 2023 and was a significant moment for tennis in Canada. Team Canada’s win of the Billie Jean King Cup underscored the rising popularity and competitive talent in Canada, particularly among girls and women in Canada.

Looking Forward

June was a phenomenal month for Tennis PEI, filled with events that not only promoted the sport but also fostered a sense of community and camaraderie among participants. As we look forward to the rest of the year, we are excited to build on this momentum and continue to provide opportunities for players of all levels to engage with tennis.

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and supported our events. Your enthusiasm and dedication make Tennis PEI a thriving community. Stay tuned for more exciting events and updates!
